“We’re gonna stay up all night!” “FUCK YEAH!”
“If you want to know what it’s like to receive hate mail, just blog at a website with the word “feminist” in the title, under your real name.”

I’ve been asked several times over the last few years why I don’t have comments open on this blog. (I also don’t allow anonymous messaging or provide contact information.) The answer is simple: I refuse to make myself a sitting duck for anonymous hate, threats of violence, and trolls, all of which I routinely experienced when I first opened this blog and made commenting available. It was unnerving, and I’ve found that when people have to own their words—even under anonymous blogs or pseudonyms—they’re a lot less likely to be horrible.
